EthicsAI was founded by Dr Orit Kopel and Jimmy Wales out of deep appreciation for the immense positive potential of AI technology, and the increasing need to acknowledge its unique ethical challenges
Dr Orit Kopel is a social entrepreneur and a legal expert specialising in the ethics of Artificial Intelligence. Dr Kopel earned her PhD in Law from King's College London, researching the ethics of AI in the context of the police use of Live Facial Recognition technology. She has a Master of Laws degree (LLM) from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), specialising in Human Rights Law. Dr Kopel is passionate about tech and specialises in the intersection between ethics and technology.
As a qualified Lawyer, and with extensive experience in social entrepreneurship and business development, Dr Kopel has the expertise and skills to assess AI compliance with ethical standards and consult stakeholders on developing adequate policies and safeguards to secure ethical and accountable use of AI solutions in accordance with principles of fairness, privacy and accountability.
Dr Kopel is the Founder of Glass Voices, a social enterprise aiming to empower women to pursue leadership roles in society. She is the Co-Founder of Wikitribune and formerly the CEO of the Jimmy Wales Foundation, advocating for freedom of expression online. Dr Kopel is an experienced keynote speaker, focusing on privacy rights, tech equality and AI ethics.
Jimmy Wales is an internet entrepreneur, wiki pioneer, and technology visionary, who is best known as the Founder of Wikipedia, an international collaborative free content encyclopedia on the Internet, and the Wikimedia Foundation. He is also the founder of WikiTribune, a groundbreaking ad-free news platform that produces evidence-based journalism, and co-founder of Wikia, a privately owned free web hosting service he set up in 2004.
